MP Kinship Consultation Visit
April 2019
image1-2.jpeg

Bridges were delighted to welcome Stockton South MP Alex Cunningham and Redacr and Cleveland MP Anna Turley in April to discuss the difficulties faced by Kinship carers in our community.

Anna is chairing a taskforce group to lobby Parliament in the hope that kinship carers will be afforded the same support and benefit given to other carers who are looking after children in care such as foster carers.

Currently there is no set process or statutory payments for family members who take on care of a relatives children (i.e. grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins) and Anna is hoping to address this and ensure that support is available to everyone who needs it.

Many of our carers bravely shared their own often emotional and painful experiences of the difficulties and challenges they faced looking after children who have suffered adverse childhood experiences and relationship trauma.

We are thankful to be able to be involved in the process of advocating for change and will be regularly updating on the progress of Anna's taskforce.

If you would like to be involved please contact the office or your key worker.
